What is our goal?
Think of all the money that was spent in making the decision to strip Pluto of its planetary status. Think of all the text books, museums, products, games, you name it, that have to now be changed. Millions have already been spent, millions more will need to be spent.

We say, save the money we would spend, and either grant an exception for Pluto, or change the ruling. Put all that money to work for humanitarian causes.

What if they come back next year after spending millions more and declare Earth is no longer a planet? What is the point of spending all this time and money on a naming convention? Does it really help our exploration of the universe? Does it help mankind?

To sum it up, we'd like to quote Peter Coffee from eWeek: It's not about what things are called; it's about the reason that they were ever interesting enough to be given a name at all. Specialists, in anything, would do well to remember that.
